I've been poking around lately.
Seen a lot of things that I shouldn't have seen.
It's been a good two hundred hours since you came around,
a good two hundred hours since I could bring you down.
But when you come home this September,
I'll give you a fall to remember.
I smuggled Sarsaparilla through the gates today,
wasn't gonna let the border guards take it away.
I sat on the shore and I drank it all down and
spent the night wandering all through the town.
But when you come home this October,
your fall will be almost over, almost.
I painted a peace sign on a brick storefront,
but the owner popped outside and he was waving a gun.
I ran for my young life like a rat from a hawk.
All I wanted was peace - and to not get shot.
And when you come home this November,
fall will be rolling into winter.
I saw the first leaf fall the other day,
the wind grabbed it up and led it away.
It reminded me of the day you left,
got taken by the arm and dragged into the depths.
I hope you come home this December.
I hope you can make it for the winter.
I pray you'll be home sometime next year.
I hate that you're living in fear.
